Frequently asked questions
How do I record a run?
Open the App and go to the Record tab, then tap Start. The first time, it will ask for Health and Location permission — tap Allow. With an Apple Watch you can also start straight from the watch; it syncs once you are back with your phone.
What are CTL, ATL and TSB?
The three training load metrics. CTL is long-term fitness (roughly a 42-day average load), ATL is short-term fatigue (roughly a 7-day average load), and TSB is current form (CTL − ATL: positive usually means you are recovered and ready for a hard session, negative means fatigue is piling up). Together they tell you whether to add load today or rest.
How do the metronome and audio cues work?
When you tap Start on the Record tab you first pick the beat style for this session; recording and the beat begin together, and you can change things from the top-right corner at any time during the run. With audio cues on, the App announces pace, heart rate and total distance every kilometre. Free users get 3 sessions a day at 5 minutes each, with cadence selectable in steps between 150 and 190; members get unlimited sessions, any cadence from 60 to 220, plus following measured cadence and automatic tempo changes that follow the plan.
What is the difference between the three beat styles? Does it play songs?
No songs. All three styles output percussion sounds synthesised on your device — there is no music sampling and therefore no copyright restriction either. Plain metronome is one clean click per beat, good for rhythm work; improvised groove is a loose groove generated around your cadence so long sessions do not get dull; cadence groove is arranged in sections with intensity building through the run. All three layer over the music or podcast you are already listening to rather than cutting it off. Open "Adjust groove" on the metronome screen to tune the pattern, hi-hat density, swing, intensity, section arrangement and fill frequency.
How does "follow measured cadence" work?
With it on, the App reads the system pedometer to estimate your current cadence and eases the beat towards it — every change is smoothed, so it never jumps. It is a member feature and needs the "Motion & Fitness" permission. Cadence is used on your device, only while the metronome is running, only to adjust the beat in real time: it is not written to your workout record, not saved and not uploaded. Turning follow off or stopping the beat stops the reading. When you stop moving, at a red light for example, the beat holds its current speed instead of slowing down.
How do I match the beat to the song I am listening to?
Open "Adjust groove" and use Tap Tempo at the bottom: play the track, tap 4–8 times along with it, and the App works out its BPM. You can set that as your cadence in one tap, or save it under a name as a cadence preset to come back to later. The App never analyses or recognises the song itself.
Why is my GPS route wrong in the background or on the lock screen?
Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services and set the App to "While Using the App" or "Always", with Precise Location on. Some power-saving modes restrict background location, so turn off Low Power Mode before a long run.
How does Apple Watch data reach my phone?
Once you finish on the watch, keep the watch and phone within Bluetooth range and open the App on your phone — the system syncs automatically. If it has not arrived after a while, pull to refresh on the phone, or toggle Bluetooth on the watch and phone.
How do I cancel auto-renewal?
The App cannot do it for you. On your iPhone go to Settings → your Apple ID at the top → Subscriptions → JianYundong and turn off auto-renew. Do it at least 24 hours before the current period ends; your member benefits stay active for the rest of that period and stop when it expires. Subscriptions renew within 24 hours before the end of each period — see the Terms of Use. The one-time lifetime purchase has no auto-renewal, so there is nothing to cancel.
What is the difference between the lifetime purchase and a subscription?
The benefits are identical; only the payment differs. Subscriptions are billed monthly, quarterly or yearly and renew automatically until you cancel them in system settings. The lifetime version is one payment ($24.99), valid for good, with no automatic charges and no renewal or cancellation at all. It costs about 2.5 years of the annual plan, so it is the cheaper choice if you plan to stay.
How do I restore a subscription or lifetime purchase I already bought?
Go to Settings → Subscription and tap Restore Purchases. The system checks your Apple account for the purchase (subscriptions and the one-time lifetime version alike) and unlocks it. If it still fails, send us the Apple ID used for the purchase (no password needed) via the support email.
How do I request a refund?
All subscriptions and purchases are handled by Apple. Start the request from App Store → Account → Purchase History on your device, or use Apple’s official report-a-problem page. We can explain which features a subscription covers, but we cannot process a refund ourselves.
How does jump rope counting work? Can I keep the phone in my pocket?
Jump rope uses the accelerometer to detect landing impact and wrist rotation and counts automatically — it is an estimate, not an exact count. On iPhone you need to hold it or wear it in an armband; it cannot count from a pocket, so use the Apple Watch for that. Jump rope does not count in the background and pauses when the App does. If the count is off, correct it directly on the summary screen. Raw sensor samples are not saved or uploaded — see the Privacy Policy.
Why can’t I find my watch workouts in the Health app?
Writing to the system Health app from the watch needs permission. If it was denied, the record still stays in the App and syncs to your phone — it just will not appear in Health. On the watch, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → JianYundong and allow writing.
Can I export my workout data?
Yes, and it is completely free. Go to Settings → Data Export and choose GPX, TCX or CSV; the file is saved wherever you choose, ready for backup or for importing into another tool. Your full data rights are in the Privacy Policy.
The app crashes or will not start. What should I do?
Try these first: ① force-close and reopen the App; ② restart the device; ③ check that iOS is on a supported version. If it still happens, send the steps to reproduce and your device details to the support email and we will investigate and fix it in an update.
Feedback and suggestions
We read every message. Whether it is a feature request or something that annoyed you, tell us at the support email. Your feedback is what makes JianYundong better.
